Active Release Therapy

This technique provides great benefit on areas that tend to hold stress and tension more like buttocks (gluteal muscles) and/or iliotibial band (IT band), it’s almost like a moving stretch to help release any contractions, decrease spasm, and increase range of motion in the area. 

It is a technique that might be on the more painful side, I try and always remind clients that you should never go past a 7 on a pain scale of 1-10; one being no pain and ten being the worst YOU personally have ever felt. Anything past that point isn’t conducive to the massage and won’t help with any recovery/relief.

Cupping Therapy

Cupping is a great complimentary therapy that allows your therapist to treat soft tissue, help circulation, and reduce inflammation without applying any deep pressure.

Applying the cups is comparable to a slight vacuum or suction to the skin, the marks left are NOT bruises!! The marks are caused by superficial capillaries collecting blood from the pressure caused by the cups.

Marks from cupping can last anywhere from a few minutes to 12 days, prominent marks show you were stress is being carried through the body. It’s important to drink plenty of water after a cupping session and try to avoid any extreme cold or heat for a least 24 hours, a potential side effect of cupping is decreased blood pressure.

Joint Mobilizations

Also known as joint play is something I like to integrate to assess any joint dysfunction, help improve range of motion, and improve joint nutrition.

It is small movements that either occur inside the joint or by using your bodies regular voluntary actions. We are essentially trying to create space within the joint to allow any pain and muscle guarding to decrease and restore any lost range of motion in the area we are working on. 

It should not hurt when being applied in a treatment setting! It’s comparable to feeling a good stretch, with any technique if you start to feel any pain please let you therapist know and slowly come out of the action/motion that’s being performed.
